Less mobile visitors to Seven Sisters Country Park will now be able to enjoy more of the scenic site – thanks to the donation of two single-seater electric scooters.
The scooters, donated to the Seven Sisters Visitor Centre by East Sussex County Council, can be used along the long concrete track from the Visitor Centre to the beach and will be available free on a pre-booked basis. Instruction will be given to new users.
They will also be available for use by schools taking part in Sussex Wildlife Trust educational visits
Catherine James, Visitor Services Manager at the SDCB-managed park, said there was plenty to entice visitors to the site through the winter months. “The country park is a magnificent place to visit in winter. The valley floor provides a rich feeding ground for overwintering waders, including redshanks and oystercatchers and lapwings can be seen feeding in the surrounding fields.”
She added: “Skeins of geese fly in at dusk – a wonderful sight – and if you're lucky you might catch a glimpse of a bean goose or greylag goose among the huge numbers of grazing Canada geese in the valley.”
The shop at the Visitor Centre also has a range of new stock to tempt Christmas bargain hunters as well as some beautiful craft items, made locally by members of the Sussex Guild of Craftsmen.
Ann Murray, Visitor Services Ranger, says: “The Visitor Centre is open every weekend and staff and volunteers are kept busy throughout the winter, helping in the shop, assisting on guided walks and education visits and giving advice on where to walk, where to cycle, where to eat – and even the weather forecast!”
Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer at the Visitor Centre should contact Seven Sisters Country Park on 01323-870280 or email sevensisters@southdowns-aonb.gov.uk. The Centre is open on Saturdays and Sundays,11am-4pm, throughout the winter
