Maps
The Ordnance Survey 1:25,000 Explorer Series covers the whole of the Sussex Downs. These replace the old Pathfinder Series, and have more detail than the Landranger Series.
The sheets for the South Downs are:
  • 132 - Winchester, Alresford and East Meon
  • 120 - Chichester
  • 121 - Arundel and Pulborough
  • 122 - South Downs Way (Steyning to Newhaven)
  • 123 - South Downs Way (Newhaven to Eastbourne)

Harvey Maps have produced a single map of the entire route of the South Downs Way. This is also translated into French and German, and is on waterproof paper. It is available from good outdoor shops.
