Visit Southease Church to see it's Norman tower

Directions
  1. From station turn L (west) along lane - shortly after crossing bridge over the River Ouse turn R through gate in fence. (signposted Lewes 4 miles) and follow river-bank path for about one mile.

  2. Just beyond 3rd 'step' stile turn L down embankment and along a stony track across 'The Brooks'. As you enter Rodmell village, pass National Trust car park and then Monk's Jouse on L.

  3. Turn up road to R (signposted to Barley Field) or for a short cut go straight ahead through village to junction by pub where turn L on path alongside main road - follow this for about 1/2 mile to rejoin full walk directions (go to 8). Where road bends 90° R, turn L by footpath down side of Place Bungalow.

  4. When you reach cross paths turn R past telegraph pole and across a large field to road.

  5. Turn R - Take great care here! - follow grass verge just beyond Northease Manor, then turn L up a concrete farm track (marked Northease Farm & to Breaky Bottom Vineyard) and climb up onto the Downs.

  6. At top of scarp turn L and follow the South Downs Way (which is well waymarked) across junction on Mill Hill, down to track and L along valley.

  7. At fenced paddock turn R up valley side to road. Cross minor road, then main road - (with care!).

  8. Go straight down side road to Southease village - go straight ahead with church and green on R and follow road over River Ouse, where you retrace steps back to the station.
