Directions

  1. From end of station approach turn L along road into Glynde village and then L along Ranscombe Lane.

  2. A few yards past Post Office go R over stile and follow footpath which climbs steadily up onto a shoulder of Mount Caburn.

  3. Where path levels out turn L along fenceline leading to stile into the National Nature Reserve and the summit of Mount Caburn. Retrace steps to point 3 and turn L over stile (or for a short cut go straight ahead alongside fence for 200 yards - opposite gate on L turn R down unfenced track to rejoin full walk directions (go to 10). Follow unfenced path down downhill and at bottom field corner bear L over stile and follow grassy path along floor of valley bottom.

  4. Go over stile to L of dewpond, cross another stile and climb diagonally up side of valley across field - beyond next stile turn L on path through scrub - keep R (waymarked Lewes) and climb uphill keeping to the path (over one stile) - ignore stiles high to the right that lead to golf course..

  5. Pass to L of golf clubhouse.

  6. Turn R down access road with panoramic views over Lewes.

  7. At steep hill road sign fork R along rough track (or to visit Lewes continue straight ahead downhill instead) and sharply R up steep flight of steps. Continue uphill and almost straight across golf course (waymarked by posts) - care is needed to keep to path line and avoid golf balls.

  8. Continue over 3 stiles to skyline at Saxon Down and straight ahead on track skirting copse and on to dewpond.

  9. Before reaching gate turn sharply back R on chalky track which passes to L of an old quarry (with views of Glyndebourne Opera House on L). Fork L, then straight ahead and up to stile and gate and follow clear track across open downland - with point 3 in sight about 200 yards ahead and with a gate on R, turn L down unfenced track.

  10. Follow track downhill to road, where you turn R past Glynde place and back to Glynde village, retracing steps to the station.
